Broadoaks wedding – Chris and Katie

Broadoaks wedding.

” I’m running out of words to describe just how much l love your photography! Thank you so much for the pictures, they are beyond perfect!

Thank you so much for sharing our special day. You were wonderfully unobtrusive and all our guests commented on what a thoroughly nice chap you are! You put us and our guests perfectly at ease and we would recommend you to other couples a hundred times over! Thank you again, with love, Katie and Chris “

” Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.

A good marriage must be created.

In the art of marriage the little things are the big things…”

Chris and Katie chose ‘ The Art of Marriage’ by Wilferd A. Peterson as one of their readings at their beautiful wedding at Broadoaks Country House in the Lake District.

They originally met on an internet dating site, Katie had become a little disillusioned about the offerings on the website until one evening she came across Chris’s profile. She thought he looked lovely and most importantly ‘normal’ (!) so sent him a message. They met for a drink a few weeks later and the rest is history!

For them, a Broadoaks wedding was the only choice as they had stayed here previously, to celebrate two years of being together. Chris took that opportunity to get down on one knee and propose. With it’s cosy rooms, roaring log fires and old romantic charm, they both felt so at home and relaxed there that they booked their Broadoaks wedding the following morning.

Their wedding was a really lovely day, the weather was kind and the scenery stunning, all topped off by really nice people.

” Flossy and Leigh (aka Phoebe and Amy) were our hair and make-up fairy godmothers. Our hair and make up stayed immaculate for the entire day, I have never felt as beautiful as they made me feel ! “

“I knew my dress (by Justin Alexander) was ‘ the one ‘ when I left the shop and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I loved the all over lace detail and the way the close fitting style made me look like I had curves ! I felt incredibly elegant and it seemed perfectly suited to the ‘English rose’ look I was trying to achieve. It was exactly the wedding dress I had always dreamed of.”

As she walked down the aisle, Katie’s best friend Paul played a beautiful song named ‘ I Giorni ‘ by Ludovico Einaudi on the harp.

” Thank you for being my life, my sunshine and my missing puzzle piece”  –  Chris

” I promise to care for your always, to keep a warm and loving home, and continue my endless quest to fill your belly!”  –  Katie

Katie and Chris wrote their vows together, they tried to keep them lighthearted to help them relax and make their guests smile. They definitely achieved that!

“We framed pictures of our parents and grandparents (some of whom are no longer with us) on their wedding days and displayed them on a table – a way of ‘having them with us’ on the day.”

Chris – ” Our first date made me feel like we’d know each other for years. I enjoyed having my arm around her so much that I didn’t want to move despite being on the most uncomfortable bench I’ve ever had the displeasure to sit on because I didn’t want that moment to end. After that night it was a done deal, I just had someone else to convince, the other love of my life, Winston….”

” I have always enjoyed arts and crafts. I made the menus, table plan, place cards, table centres and invitations myself using hessian, lace, ribbon, buttons and a vintage style typewriter font. It was certainly a labour of love but so worthwhile when I saw it all come together on the day! “

For wedding favours, they gave the girls Cancer Research pin badges and Katie made a donation to the charity which is close to her heart. For the boys, they bought Euromillions lottery tickets and put them in little envelopes printed with ‘ for richer, for poorer.’ ” If anyone won big that day, they didn’t tell us! “ – Katie

They both love the outdoors and particularly the beautiful British countryside. They wanted a relaxed, traditional affair in a rustic setting and decided on an English country garden style wedding.

To fit in with the traditional, English country garden theme they chose classic ivory, pink and lilac roses, freesia, sweet pea and gypsophila.

Katie managed to contain her tears all day, until she began the first dance! “We chose John Legend ‘ All of Me ’. It summed up beautifully our feelings for one another.”

The home-made sweetie table went down a treat!

Katie: ” If I could share some wedding wisdom with future couples, I would say dedicate as much of your budget as you can afford on an excellent wedding photographer and videographer. They were two of the best decisions and worth every penny. Our stunning Queensberry wedding album and DVD are precious heirlooms that we will delight in showing our children! Also invest in a good hair and make up artist…it takes all the stress away from getting ready leaving the bride relaxed and looking her most radiant!  Most of all, relax and try to enjoy every single moment as it goes so fast! “
